O mně / About Me
V devadesátkách mě zaujalo logo Ducks a film Šampioni. A pak přišlo jméno Paul Kariya.
Sběratelský impulz přišel nenápadně – kartička #50 z české edice 1991–92 Upper Deck World Juniors.
Kromě hokeje můj život provází hudba – hlavně osmdesátky, devadesátky a house music.
🇺🇸 A Moravian Boy with a Love for Number Nine
Welcome to a website dedicated to the hockey card collection of Paul Kariya – legendary NHL forward, Olympic gold medalist, long-time Anaheim Mighty Ducks icon, and member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
I
was born in late 1981 in Hodonín, a small town in southern Moravia,
where I still live today. As a kid, I was always close to sports.
Despite some health limitations, I enjoyed playing tennis, street
hockey, or football – and collecting trading cards.
In
the '90s, I was captivated by the Ducks logo and the Mighty Ducks
movie. Then came the name Paul Kariya. I first noticed him at the 1993
World Championship, but he truly amazed me a year later in Italy. His
style, intelligence, and clean game were unforgettable.
To
me, Paul has always been more than just a player. I admire athletes
with not only talent but also depth. His quiet humility, speed, and
intelligence on the ice fascinated me. Maybe he was simply born ten
years too early to become an even greater legend of his era.
The
collecting spark came quietly – with card #50 from the 1991–92 Upper
Deck World Juniors Czech Edition. I still have that card in my
collection.
After
a 20-year break, I returned to collecting in 2016. And a dream was born
– not just to collect, but to capture Paul's career in physical form.
First 500 cards. Then 1,000. 1,500... In 2025, I crossed the milestone
of 2,500 unique Paul Kariya cards.
Collecting
has always been more than a hobby to me. It's relaxation, joy, and a
return to childhood emotions. Over time, the collection expanded beyond
cards – to magazines, books, figurines... anything carrying Kariya's
name.
Besides
hockey, music has always been part of my life – especially the sounds
of the '80s, '90s and house music. Around the turn of the millennium, I even tried my
hand as a DJ. Today, I work as editor-in-chief and social media manager
for the hockey club SHKM Baník Hodonín, where I also handle PR and
communication.
These
days, I collect at a slower pace. Not because the passion is gone – far
from it. It's just that the time has come to organize, reflect, and
present. And this website is the result of that.
